Asteroids Hacking

So, what do you get up to when you have nearly two weeks off over xmas? I’m sure most people sit down and do sensible stuff like drink themselves silly and stuff themselves with food. Sure I did some of that but I also decided to familiarise myself with the Atari DVG and hack about with 6502 assembler code on an Atari Asteroids PCB.

Here’s the visible result:

Unable to display content. Adobe Flash is required.

The finished end result is actually a test routine for the real PCB. By toggling a setting in the code you can display nothing, which is useful for when you’re getting the MPU code running, you can display just the cross, which is useful for simple debugging of the DVG and you can display the full animated screen which fully exercises all aspects of the DVG.
